Connectors are recommended for soft ground and muddy areas. They helps to keep mats in place during deployment and ensure a secure fit and stronger traction. Use of connectors, however, is optional.

Metal connectors require a mat to be lifted on one side in order to push the connector through the hole. Rubber connectors are easier to install.
